Commonwealth Islands in Second Life

EnviroLink Foundation accepted an invitation to produce the final day of EarthWeek in SL on the Commonwealth Islands. There is an opportunity for those of you with rl NPO (nonprofit organization) affiliations. Sunday, April 26 is shaping up like this:

*10am - 1pm Greenpeace celebration of past and present campaigns
*12pm - 2pm Open House: Visit with and among members of the member organizations
* 2pm - 4pm Program: "The End of Stuff - A Journey Thru Evolution, the Built Environment and Energy." Sponsored by No. West Solar Center, Washington State University
* All day self-guided tours, beginning at the AKK Horse Corral (demos available): follow the paths through the 4 sims. Enjoy the natural environment and view work of Commonwealth members and residents.

We are extending the paths throughout the sims and adding note card dispensers to support self-guided tours, beginning at the AKK Horse Corral on Commonwealth 2. While the wonderful AKK horses can be purchased there, demo horses are available and good for five rides. Members and guests can enjoy the natural environment and view the work of Commonwealth members and residents. A note card at the corral will explain the tour and the use of the horses. We recommend Skype for people traveling in small groups.

Now, here's where you may be able to contribute content and draw some attention to the groups you work with in 'real' life:

If you are affiliated with a first life non profit organization with a mission congruent with Envirolink/Commonwealth - environment, sustainability, social justice, mindfulness - you may want to set out a small display linking to your organization's website. Each display will consist of a poster, an online indicator and a notecard dispenser.

We plan to set out 2-4 of the large octagon huts. Each has 4 wall panels, providing space for 8 displays, giving us room for up to 32 displays. They will stay up from the middle of April through May 1.

To use one of the display areas, we need the approval of the organization. Please send an email to SLWidget@gmail.com. Include name, location and URL of your real life organization, along with the avatar names of the Commonwealth members who can be on Commonwealth in April. Copy your organization so we can verify their permission.

Thank you for being part of Commonwealth Islands in Second Life, an exploration of the uses of internet technology for nonprofit organizations.
